Building Wealth Takes Time: Inside One Property Investor's Journey with investRand

At investRand, we often say that property investment is not about speed — it’s about strategy, patience, and long-term vision. One of our clients, Onesimo Dube, embodies exactly that mindset.

When Onesimo began his property investment journey in September last year, he understood that the process would take time. Like many investors, he encountered delays — particularly with one of his properties, where outstanding obligations on the seller’s side (such as municipal or bank-related debts) slowed down the transfer process.

While these delays can be frustrating, they are not uncommon in property transactions. Legal processes, documentation, and compliance requirements can sometimes extend timelines beyond the expected three months.

A Conversation with Onesimo Dube

Q: How has your property investment journey been so far?

Onesimo:

"It’s been a process. I started around September last year, and there have been some delays along the way. But I understand that these things happen."

Q: Were you expecting the process to take this long?

Onesimo:

"At first, I thought it would take about three months, but it’s taken longer than that. From what I understand, some of the delays are due to issues on the seller’s side, like outstanding payments. So I get why it’s taking time."

Q: How do you feel about the delays?

Onesimo:

"I’m not in a rush. I still have time. I understand that this process doesn’t always move quickly, and I’m okay with that."

Q: What keeps you motivated despite the delays?

Onesimo:

"For me, it’s about the future. It’s not something you do just for now. There are people who are going to live in these properties. It takes time to build something meaningful."

Q: What is your overall mindset when it comes to property investment?

Onesimo:

"It’s definitely a long-term thing. It’s about building something that will last — something that can benefit not just me, but my family as well."

Q: What would you say to someone who is just starting out?

Onesimo:

"Be patient. Understand that things won’t always move fast, but that doesn’t mean you’re not making progress. If you’re doing it for the right reasons, it will be worth it in the end."
